Terms of Service

Template disclaimer — not legal advice
This page is a starting-point template. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer, does not claim compliance with any specific law or regulation, and leaves at least one placeholder (governing law, below) for the operator to fill in. Please have it reviewed by a qualified attorney before relying on it.
These Terms govern your use of Transcript (the "Service") — the website at transcript.land, the REST API, and the CLI. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
What the Service does
Transcript converts a video URL (YouTube, TikTok, X, Instagram, Bilibili, Facebook, RedNote) or an uploaded audio file into a text transcript, using the platform's own captions when available and automated speech recognition (ASR) otherwise. Transcripts can be exported as TXT, SRT, VTT, or JSON, via the web app, the REST API, or the CLI.
Accounts and API keys
You're responsible for the accuracy of the information on your account and for all activity that happens under your account or your API keys. Keep API keys confidential — treat them like a password. Tell us right away if you suspect a key has been compromised, and we can revoke it.
Content you submit
You're solely responsible for the URLs and audio files you submit. By submitting content, you represent that you have the right to have it transcribed — whether because you own it, have permission from the rights holder, or your use is otherwise lawful (e.g. content you have a legitimate right to access and process for personal or research use). You must not use the Service to:
- Transcribe content you don't have the right to transcribe, or in a way that infringes someone else's copyright or other rights.
- Submit content that is illegal, or that violates the terms of service of the platform it's hosted on — that's on you to check, not us.
- Attempt to bypass rate limits, usage metering, or other technical restrictions of the Service.
- Reverse engineer, scrape, or resell access to the Service without our written permission.
- Use the Service to build a directly competing product using our infrastructure or outputs at scale without authorization.
No warranty on transcription accuracy
Transcripts are generated automatically (from platform captions or ASR) and may contain errors — misheard words, wrong speaker attribution, missed punctuation, or gaps. The Service is provided for convenience, not as a certified or verbatim record. Review transcripts yourself before relying on them for anything where accuracy matters (legal, medical, financial, publication, or similarly consequential use).
Subscriptions, billing, and refunds
Paid plans are billed by Polar, our merchant of record, which handles payment processing, invoicing, and tax collection under its own terms. Usage is measured in minutes of video transcribed per billing period, per your plan (Free, Pro, or Ultra). Refunds are handled per Polar's policies and at our discretion — contact support@transcript.land for billing issues.
Fair use and rate limits
Each plan includes a monthly transcription-minutes allowance and reasonable rate limits on API/CLI requests. We may throttle, queue, or temporarily suspend access for usage patterns that look automated-abusive or that put disproportionate load on the Service, even if nominally within your plan's minutes.
Termination
You may stop using the Service and cancel your subscription at any time from the dashboard. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, misuse the Service, or don't pay for a paid plan, and will make reasonable efforts to notify you first except in cases of suspected abuse or legal risk.
Intellectual property
We own the Service itself — the website, API, CLI, and branding. You retain all rights to the content you submit and the transcripts generated from it. You grant us only the limited right to process that content as needed to provide the Service (including the caching described in our Privacy Policy).
Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We don't guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or perfectly accurate.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we won't be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or $100 if you're on the Free plan.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the Service changes. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above; continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
Governing law
[Operator placeholder — not yet filled in.] These Terms are governed by the laws of the operator's jurisdiction, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. The operator should insert the specific jurisdiction here before relying on this document.
